The Network tab controls how the Core Tap connects to Wi-Fi. Changes here take effect after the device reboots. The live IP address and other current network details are shown on the System tab.
Important: Always click Refresh before making changes to load the current device values - this avoids accidentally overwriting settings you did not intend to change.
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Join Wi-Fi Network | The Core Tap connects to an existing router as a client. Best when multiple devices need to share the same network. |
| Create a Hotspot (Access Point) | The Core Tap broadcasts its own Wi-Fi network. Other devices connect directly to it. Best for standalone setups or venues without a managed network. |
If the device is set to Join Wi-Fi but loses the connection, it automatically falls back to hotspot mode so you can still reach it.
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| DHCP | The router assigns an IP address automatically. Recommended for most setups. |
| Static IP | You enter a fixed IP address manually. Use this only when directed by your IT team or when you need a predictable address. |
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Wi-Fi SSID | The name of the Wi-Fi network to join (up to 32 characters). |
| Wi-Fi Password | The password for that network. |
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Device Host Name | A friendly name for this unit on the network (up to 32 characters). This is also the Device Name shown on the General tab. Example: station-1 or core-tap-lobby. |
| Device MAC Address | Read-only. The hardware address of this device's Wi-Fi radio. |
When the device is on a network, this hostname is also used for local (mDNS) discovery:
CoreTap-XXXX): the mDNS address includes the last four hex digits of the device's MAC address for uniqueness - http://coretap-XXXX.local.http://<device-hostname>.local. For example, naming the device station-1 gives http://station-1.local.These settings apply when the device is in Create a Hotspot mode.
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| AP SSID | The name of the hotspot network broadcast by this device (up to 32 characters). |
| AP Password | The password clients must enter to connect. Leave blank for an open network. Minimum 8 characters if a password is set. |
| AP Idle Timeout (seconds) | If no device connects to the hotspot within this time, the hotspot turns off automatically. Set to 0 to keep it running indefinitely. |
(Only applies when IP Mode is set to Static IP)
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| IP Address | The fixed IP address to assign to this device. |
| Subnet Mask | Your network's subnet mask (commonly 255.255.255.0). |
| Gateway | The IP address of your router. |
| DNS | The DNS server address (often the same as the Gateway). |
Click Save Network to write the settings to the device. The device will reboot to apply the new network configuration. After rebooting, reconnect to the device using the new address.
